RailEurope.co.uk Review
RailEurope is the UK's leading specialist in the promotion and sale of European rail travel. It is comprised of a holding company, Rail Europe Group Limited, and two operating companies:
RailEurope Ltd - sells tickets for Eurostar and the continental rail network, including high speed services such as TGV.
History Of RailEurope
- The railways of France have been represented in the UK for over 100 years, initially by some of the larger private companies who set up their own offices in London.
- In 1938, the Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais (SNCF) was created by the merger of the state railway company with five of the other principal operators. At the same time, a UK subsidiary, French Railways Ltd was created, and during the 1950's opened it's shop and offices at 179 Piccadilly, London.
- In 1997, following the privatisation of British Rail, SNCF acquired British Rail International, which had offices in various parts of the world including America, Australasia and continental Europe. Subsequently, SNCF merged the operations of French Railways Ltd. and BRI to form Rail Europe Ltd.
- 2002 saw the relocation of Rail Europe's head office and call centre to new, purpose built premises at Kings Hill in Kent and the setting up, in Piccadilly, of the French Travel Centre, a joint exercise with Maison de la France.
